Hey guys! Any of you remember that screencap adventure of Super Mario RPG I started almost a year back? Wait... two years back. Fuck.

I'm picking it up again! I even have the files where I left off! We'll bounce right back to the Mushroom Kingdom in no time! Best of all, we'll get our first Star Piece! X3 The caps are uploaded, it's just a matter of organizing and applying commentary. But since my poor audience has endured Production Hell for so long, you deserve a little something special. Let's start a file of SMRPG... in Japanese!

My my... the menu looks different...

Mario can bounce all the way across the menu! They don't call him Jumpman for nothing.

Photobucket

"LICK MY FEET, DENNIS HOPPER."

Photobucket

What we've been calling the Princess already! Therefore, I'm completely justified saying "Peach" throughout my screencap adventure. 8)

The colors, Duke, the colors! The buttons on the Super Famicon are different from the purple ones on the Super NES. So they tweaked the design to match ours when the game got localized.

Commands are still in English though. :)

Photobucket

"Nice ass, Mario!"

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I don't know what she's saying in this context. It can't be "Fight Mario, FIGHT!" unless she well... digs it that way. <.<;;; Either unchanged or "Mario you can do it!" or something to that effect. I have no knowledge of reading Japanese. XD

Peach tends to add hearts at the end of her sentences, like a verbal tic or something. Dunno how she is the rest of the game, but I thought it interesting to cap.

Saved my progress! I wondered what the files looked like with data on them, so here you go. I selected a character that looked like a smilie face. :o

More information about Japanese!SMRPG can be found here. Which saves me a lot of capping. XDD! There's a little more mentioned at SMRPG's page on TVTropes, but I'll bring them up as I cap along so nobody gets sucked into the abyss, aka TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life. XD Next up... actual update! :D

ha ha yep, what [livejournal.com profile] charmwitch said; she's saying fight, mario!! fight!

i think the hearts are more of a common cue for what voice to use to read what she's saying
with women the hearts are usually supposed to convey a more girlish/upbeat/cute voice

like, for example, it's the difference between
thank you so much!! <333
and
thank you so much!!
you read them different ways, right?

That makes sense! The hearts make a cute touch the more I think about it, aw. According to TV Tropes, Bowser speaks the most hirigana and katakana while Geno uses the most kanji. I'm a sucker for little details like that. :o

シ is 'shi'.

Thankfully, not the number (四) or the word for death (死), but just the syllable 'shi' in kana.

In other words, you did a truncated version of naming your character AAAAA. 8Db
