Since fandomsecrets just recently updated, I thought I'd get this out of the way. So I make an innocent little comment regarding a poster's secret, and SOMEONE decides to pick a fight with me over something completely unrelated. How bad does it get? According to her, I'm a misogynist bigot for using the word 'feminazi'.

Thanks to her little comment, she rounds up a few people against me too and starts an unnecessary thread. At first I was confused ("Wha?") but decided to play along, because lulz wank. (Even feeling a little proud of myself. Just imagining the headlines... "Look ma! I made it to Fandom Wank! This is awesome! X333") But then it just left me baffled and feeling really irritated. How many times did I have to tell the same person that I do not equate all feminists as feminazis and I DO NOT BELIEVE FEMINISM AND FEMINAZISM ARE THE SAME THING.

Then I get questions thrown in my face if I believed "feminazis" were entirely a stereotypical fabrication or that they actually exist. Obviously, how can I answer this without sounding like a prick to certain sides? If I said they were fictional, they'd call me a river in Egypt and I haven't experienced the world enough. If I said every person born on Earth had a unique personality that could fit a stereotype exactly and that there are a number of people who fall into these extremes, I'll get rotton cabbages flung at my face for falling for the lies of frightened intimidated men whose masculinity/position of power is threatened his wife has free will and doesn't worship him 24/7 for every little bitty thing he does.

Thank god, I had defenders. They stood up for what I was trying to explain and pointed out the hypocricies and fallacies made in that person's "arguments". Just... ugh. Was that commenter analyzing my every word just to find something even slightly offensive so she could throw darts?

As a feminist, I resent that.

...Oops. My bad. That should be "supporter of equal rights for women", because people flare up when they see the word "feminist", which is why I rarely bring it up in my journal in the first place. ('Cause all feminists are feminazis, oh noes!) (...SARCASM! SARCASM! THIS IS MOTHERFUCKING SARCASM. WOULD YOU ACTUALLY TAKE ME SERIOUSLY IF I LITERALLY MEANT I THINK ALL FEMINISTS ARE LIKE THIS!?)

I hate the term "femnazi" and it's never a good idea to use it, but...we're all human, lol. XD; That said...paperclipchains and a few others there were just being douches. >:[ God, it's like you can't even make a mistake on the internet without people sitting on your head demanding you apologize. I think the fact that she used it to refer to a stereotype in fiction that she didn't like was about as proper usage as you can get. I mean, "feminazi" refers to the strawman figure that appears in fiction to demonize real feminism, and that's exactly what she meant.

People take any use of 'feminazi' pretty harshly a lot of the time, because it's so often used as a slur against any feminist and I believe the term was coined by right-wing pundits who think anyone supporting equal rights for women is some kind of extremist. So if people on the internet don't know you, they'll tend to jump to conclusions about how you're using it :( Sorry you got caught up in that, but people do tend to assume the worst unfortunately.

Personally I never knew about the etymology of feminazi. oO;;; Only that I knew it was commonly brought up in fanon discussion regarding poorly-developed tomboys that want to rip the testicles of anyone with a Y chromosome. Funny how the Internet can delude and desensitize us like that. (Heck, I never use "fanpoodle" or "Twatlight" because their definitions are a buncha vulgar obscenities)

Kinda reminds me when I used "prick" as an insult a lot because I thought it meant calling a person as horrible as a "prick on the finger" from a needle. Until someone on AIM pointed out to me it was offensive hateful slang (especially used on a guy) and I stopped. oO;;;

I've had the same person try to start a flame war. I think I spent two posts justifying myself and then just ignored it entirely.
