To be fair, most of Shadow's emotions past "emo" and "navel-gazing" were largely All There In The Manual - which is to say, they went into them in the comics and Sonic X, but in the games he's pretty one-dimensional. Or was until Chronicles, but whatev.

Thus, my Justifying Edit:
Well... It's true there's no canonical grounds for Shadow being attracted to Sonic, but just watch any of the cutscenes in Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic Riders and you'll realize that Sonic himself flirts with anything and everything that moves. Except Amy Rose.
