I beat Yume Nikki. ;; Shortest ending for like 5 seconds and it's still managed to make me D: at the screen. It's so open-ended too! That I like. A lot. But now I see why it's a baaaaaaaaaad idea to get spoiled before you beat the game. :P I need Madotsuki/Masada icons now. ;_____________;

The ending of Yume Nikki makes me a sad little girl, but then after thinking about it for awhile, I think it's an appropriate ending. I mean, wouldn't it spoil the whole thing if she lived happily ever after?

I was planning on putting some Madotsuki/Masada in my next icon batch, but I could at least pull out some pictures of them for you xP

One of my initial theories that Madotsuki believed herself to be such a horrible monster that she didn't believe anyone should ever come near her for their own safety, hence the isolation. Finding herself irredeemable and believing the world would be better off without her, she kills herself in real life before becoming the next Michael Myers and murdering real life itself into an identical grisly reality of her Dream World.

Yume Nikki CAN have a happy ending and stay plausible. This is my favorite take on the case:

"She doesn't kill herself in any sense but the metaphorical. Throughout the game she's been restoring order to her psyche and reconciling with her subconscious fears. By destroying her own identity, she overcomes the fears that were locking her inside. Look at the "bloodstain". Rotate it about seventy or eighty degrees clockwise.

It's a keyhole. She's free."
