What are the five most depressing episodes/chapters/scenes?
Witch: What were you not to do? Children must see...
Rapunzel: No!
Witch: And learn...
Rapunzel: No!
Witch: You are ashamed. You don't understand...
Rapunzel: It was lonely atop that tower.
Witch: I was not company enough?
Rapunzel: I am no longer a child! I wish to see the world!
Witch: Don't you know what's out there in the world?
Someone has to shield you from the world
Stay with me...
Princes wait there in the world, it's true
Princes, yes, but wolves and humans, too
Stay at home
I am home...
Who out there could love you more than I?
What out there that I cannot supply?
Stay with me
Stay with me, the world is dark and wild
Stay a child while you can be a child
With me...
By the next act, Rapunzel commits suicide by flinging herself at a giant. The Witch sings "Lament":
This is the world I meant!
Couldn't you listen?
Couldn't you stay content
Safe behind walls as I could not?
Now you know what's out there in the world
No one can prepare you for the world, even I...
How could I, who loved you as you were?
How could I have shielded you from her or them...
No matter what you say, children won't listen
No matter what you know, children refuse to learn
Guide them along the way, still they won't listen
Children can only grow from something you love to something you lose...
Then there's the rest of the songs that follow, such as "No More", "No One Is Alone", and "Children Will Listen". Waaaaaaaaaah. ;; GO WATCH THE PLAY YOU NINNIES
4. Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back!
"Thank you for crying for me, Mewtwo..."
The Birth of Mewtwo special. Ash dying. Pikachu trying to shock him back to life. I cried three times in a row to that movie as a kid. Then I discovered the Birth of Mewtwo special and I cried all over again.
5. Mother 1: The Epiphany

Okay, here's the gist of it: Teddy's parents were killed by mountain creatures, who may or may not have been possessed by Giegue. As a result, a sweet little kid who wouldn't hurt a fly vowed vengeance and turned into a nasty muscular punk in the streets, becoming head of his own gang. Seeing Ninten as strong as he was, Teddy is impressed and joins him and Ana (kicking out Loid as a result). In the end? Teddy's strength was useless against a gigantic robot, and all three of them would've died if Loid hadn't come in his tank. In a nutshell: Teddy devoted his entire life to becoming strong, basing his identity on that in the need to prove himself to everyone and his enemies for his parents. In the end, his best wasn't enough. He was worth nothing.
Ninten, Ana and Loid gave him something better: hope.

In comes my favorite line in the game:

Loid? Is a pathetic genius who's ridiculed at school who's self-confidence is as low as the trash cans he hides in. He's scrawny and small and will never get the build Teddy has, but guess what? From that one line, Loid proved himself as the strongest character in the game. ;;
Okay, so maybe it's not "wholly" depressing, but it does make me wibble goddammit. DDDDDDDD:
1. ANYTHING FROM MOTHER 3
GOD. OH MY FUCKING GOD. To be fair, I still haven't played the game. But how could I not include Mother 3? Gods, I already know all the spoilers and I'm still bawling my eyes out. Like... with Claus.
*LALALA SPOILERS LALALA*
Hinawa dies. Which fucking sucks. So Claus goes out to fight Mecha-Drago to avenge his Mom. Guess what? He dies too.
But that doesn't end there. Guess who the Masked Boy is?
Pokey revived Claus and turned him into an emotionless, ruthless killer. Cue the final battle of the game, which was all ABOUT snapping Claus out of it so he could remember who he was. ("Come home Claus... come home.") Claus commits suicide, by shooting an electric attack at his brother Lucas (who's wearing the Franklin Badge) and has it reflected back at him. He's held in Lucas's arms and manages to speak to him before he dies.
Oh yeah. Doesn't help that at this point Flint's so overcome with joy in seeing his son Claus alive he doesn't care about what kind of monster Pokey's turned him into.
GOD. GOD. DDDDDD:
2. The ending of West Side Story.
Shut up. I like West Side Story. (Besides, it's fucking hardcore, Sondheim wrote the lyrics!) And the ending? Makes me feel miserable. And I always cry.
Tony: *sees that she's alive* Maria! :D
*gunshot*
Tony: *dies*
It's based off Romeo & Juliet. Of course it's not gonna end happy. But Maria's last lines makes it worse:
"All of you! You all killed him! And my brother, and Riff. Not with bullets, or guns, with hate. Well now I can kill, too, because now I have hate!"
It always hits me in the gut, because well... it's true. Somehow it's even more effective than Juliet dying too.
3. Into the Woods
Without fail, this musical makes me and my family cry. ;; Especially during the second act, and you have to see it to believe it. :( See: the relationship between the Witch and Rapunzel. This is "Stay With Me", sung after the Witch discovers a prince has climbed the tower. It opens with Rapunzel screaming as the Witch drags her by the hair:
Witch: What did I clearly say? Children must listen!
Rapunzel: No! No, please!GOD. OH MY FUCKING GOD. To be fair, I still haven't played the game. But how could I not include Mother 3? Gods, I already know all the spoilers and I'm still bawling my eyes out. Like... with Claus.

What have I been to you?
What would you have me be?
Handsome like a Prince?
Ah, but I am old, I am ugly.
I embarrass you.
