Back from Corpus Christi! My parents and I watched the Blue Brothers last night, which was great fun. ♥ The Runaway Five are even more awesome now~ ♥ And now, I have images of Venus going after Gorgeous and Lucky with a flamethrower and rocket launcher. XD Hee hee.
Venus: I will kill you and your brother!
Gorgeous: *begging on his knees* PLEASE DON'T KILL ME I LOVE YOOOOOU
Venus: ...
Gorgeous: ...
Both: *SMOOCH SESSION*
Lucky: *stays ducked on the floor* *hiding in his hat*
Also, all this whining about Livejournal is pissing me off. Nutshell: O NOEZ R SPESHUL INTREZTZ IS GON3!1!11
Um, no. I can give you inevitable proof why this "censored interests" bogus is a big fat lie.
Why the heck would LJ delete something harmless like "fanfiction" or "fandom"? I dunno, I think the first thing they'd think of when it comes to fanfiction is giggly little Justin Timberlake fangirls writing sappy OOC shippy fics than pr0n. :P These words were also supposed to be wiped out from the LJ database: yaoi, smut, erotica, fanfiction, that kinda thing.
I have 150 interests. I checked upon reading the news and I still do. Guess what's still listed? Yaoi. And yuri. (Plus why would you go out and ban a stupid word like "lemons"? :P) But here's the clincher: I still have "orgy" in my interests. I have this interest because it's the name of one of my favorite bands. But when most people think of "orgy", they think of "group sex". Likewise with "lemons", where those in fandom are likely to think of "graphic sex" before "yellow citrus fruit". Why the hell should you censor a common ordinary word like "lemons" because of the pr0n connotation it has in fandom? Likewise Orgy didn't name themselves after anything sexual at all, but a synchronization and harmony of sounds working together, an "orgy of sounds". Trivia: J.M. Barrie used the word "orgy" in his book Peter Pan. Again, it had nothing to do with group sex whatsoever. Just like in old movies and musicals such as West Side Story where if you say you're gay, it means you're happy. Nothing to do with your sexual orientation.
If LJ truly censored our interests, why do I still have 150 (the maximum) instead of 146?
I guess what makes me twitch is that someone shouted out they cut "bisexuality" as an interest and everyone cried out "ZOMG OPRESSHUN!1!1!1" That is total fucking bullshit. Geez, it's like freakin' mob-psychology. Do you want to know the REAL meaning of oppression, guys? Watch Philadelphia with Tom Hanks. You won't believe the disgusting things people spoke of others with AIDS that we take so much for granted now. Hell, I just read several letters high-schoolers sent to a newspaper columnist about the nasty backlash that happened after they came out. Sure, they weren't physically beaten, but they're still ridiculed by kids at school, their parents constantly remind them how disappointed they are and try to "change" them, and if they hadn't been lucky enough to have close friends and now that they have a future for them somewhere in college or becoming an adult, they would've been completely convinced they're alone in the world. I can't put justice to describing their experiences, but I know I've encountered much homophobic instances with my own eyes and ears. When you're there, you're there. It's a disgusting feeling prejudice leaves on people.
So, LJ whiners? If removing a popular interest is considered "oppression", you guys are really damn sheltered. Arg, is it worth trying to keep a clear head in a mob?
I'd also type about what hypocrites shallow fangirls are for loving their yaoi and pretty bishies but vomit and scream at the thought of real-life gays and canon yaoi (OMG KURAMA AND HIEI 4EVR!!1!1 BUT WAIT. Itsuki & Sensui? EWWW. Tony from Earthbound? OH NOES). But maybe I'm better off writing "EW SCARY THAT'S SO UGLY" Teddy/Loid with Jean instead.

Date: 2008-03-17 08:53 pm (UTC)Honestly? I can sorta see where the concern's coming from. LJ has a history of not being very clear on things, and they wanna appear family-friendly so people think the worst.
But all the LJ bashing and predictions of doom and losing faith is starting to make it sound like anyone who hasn't taken their toys and run away or gone all hardcore pessimistic is a drooling naive LJ-humping consumer whore.
Is LJ perfect and wonderful? No. Were they bloody stupid to nix the creation of basic accounts without so much as a warning? Hell yes. Should they follow through with their promise to LISTEN and think of their userbase before their profit? YES.
But it's perfectly possible to stay loyal to something while not being 100% happy with it.

Date: 2008-03-17 09:58 pm (UTC)But I would like to clarify that yeah, I think they're taking things a bit too far, the users that is... I mean, sure, I've been irritated at lj lately too, but not so much for the changes as for the way they keep handling these changes in regards to dealing with the userbase :x

Date: 2008-03-18 01:47 pm (UTC)What this person said. It's different from the last time.
oh dear I seem to be delivering my thoughts on yaoi in your journal, sorry
Date: 2008-03-17 10:02 pm (UTC)But I'll agree that the people being most vocal about this have lost all sense of proportion. Remember the Strikethroughs last year? Hello, fandom still seems to exist on LJ. Whoops.
*more irritated about their sneakiness getting rid of Basic accounts, personally*

Date: 2008-03-18 03:00 am (UTC)But I did love this:
"I'd also type about what hypocrites shallow fangirls are for loving their yaoi and pretty bishies but vomit and scream at the thought of real-life gays and canon yaoi"
UM YES. I've had quite a few friends who lurrrrve their yaoi omgz as long as they weren't REALLY GHEY OMG and were toootally against civil rights. Gawd. One of them eventually started accepting gays more and liking yaoi less and so became a nice neutral after really stopping to think about it, but most of them are so totally set in it. I guess the fact that most of these guys look like girls plays a big part.

Date: 2008-03-18 03:35 am (UTC)And about the Basic Account thing, I don't think it was fair, but then again I don't really care because I already have a Sponsored Account. I mean it's not really a big deal, I hardly notice the ads on my journal, and I would think everyone on the internet is used to ads being on every website. But I guess it would irritate those who have specific layouts and such. LJ should have at least gave a warning. :/

Date: 2008-03-18 11:38 am (UTC)Teddy/Loid sounds really hot for some reason...
Oh yes, agree with you on fangirl hypocrites, especially on the non-canon things. I mean, I love non-canon couples, I hardly like canon couples, but I certainly don't shy away from canon-couples as a whole. Hey, it's usually pretty great if there's a single canon yaoi couple at all! But I know so many people who just lose interest in canon yaoi. "Lyke omg, can't you totally see how every character in this show is gay? Whut, this other show ACTUALLY HAS gay characters in it? OMG HOW LAME EWW!!!" :/
How to Offend Women in Less Than Five Syllables
Date: 2008-03-18 05:46 pm (UTC)And fuck yes, Teddy/Loid is hot! *______* I oughta make more icons of 'em nomnomnom.
My taste in ships is super varied, so I go from canon to non-canon. But we've gotten so far in society to get canon yaoi that doesn't end with them dying from AIDS or homophobic gangsters! Hell, I love FAKE because not only is it hilarious, but how realistic Dee & Ryo are and how they balance each other out. 'Cause darnit, I want more than icy semes and weepy ukes. XD
