Geez, Sonic fans wouldn't recognize a wall of gold if they saw one. They'd dismiss it as pyrite without even biting it. :P

Yet they're excited over yet ANOTHER port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. A classic is a classic and all, but sheesh, only a collector would be interested in owning 32 ports of Super Mario Bros. @.@;;;;

Rule #1: NEVER QUESTION NINTENDO LOGIC. When it comes to Sonic having no toes though, it's perfectly okay to complain and shake fists. XD

Sonic fans wouldn't survive playing Earthbound without having their heads explode by the first five minutes. XD WTF THAT CAMERAGUY JUST FLEW OUT OF NOWHERE WITH NO EXPLANATION HOW DOES HE DO IT PLOT HOLE PLOT HOLE YOU SUCK ITOI. Oish, talk about missing the point of the game. XD

At least we Earthbound fans would cheer if we got a new game, if ANY. :o Guess there's things you'd take for granted unless it's an obscure fandom, eh?

I just plan on writing a crack!fic and every time I get a.) no reviews or b.) flames, I'll add another chapter.
...Hell, I should add chapters even if people like it.

I want it to be the most outrageous thing ever, but at the same time I want to actually TRY writing it well XD;; But..you know, not...? With any luck, people will give constructive criticism and I'll be asking specifically for help with characterization, even though...uh...>>; actually no, crack!fics CAN be written IC.

So I'm planning on being evil but not. :p I'm out to spread humor and open some minds up, and maybe make t-shirts and lunch boxes while I'm at it.

Hahaha, that still cracks me up. As it said in Gamespot's E3 report: "Poor Sonic. Running is all he does and he doesn't even get a clear win over Mario." XD They at least gotta make it even so the game is actually a competition, guys.

But hey, I doubt you'll hear the Mario fans complaining if Sonic manages to jump as high as Mario. (Though I can almost imagine it: "HIS ORIGINAL NAME WAS 'JUMPMAN,' COME ON!!")

I'm kind of offended. While I don't know Earthbound, I infer from your satirical tone that the "camera guy" is used as some kind of literary or narrative device... and I'm hurt that you would attribute the kind of ignorance you satire there to Sonic fandom as a whole. We as a fandom are very fond of screaming "PLOT HOLE!" at the top of our lungs, but I like to think that a substantial proportion of it do it for good reasons.

Also, regarding Mario and Sonic... both companies should have known better to pit the two against each other in anything that would involve the two needing to be competitive at something one is famous for doing or not doing. Racing and swimming = bad idea. But if this surprises any but the youngest and most naive Sonic fans (in terms of actual life and literature experience, not Sonic fandom itself) I deeply pity the surprised individuals.

I'm referring to the way the Camera Guy jumps outta the screen, takes a picture, and flies off again. There's no special meaning behind it in the game--it's just fun! (Along with a bit to the ending that's a spoiler)

What I meant was people are treating a game we still don't know much about yet like it's the presidential election. It's just a game. So what if they're running and swimming or bungee jumping? (It's not like Sonic walks along the bottom or spin-dashes atop the surface in the old games anyway) It just... augh. It makes me throw my hands up. I know I'm one to talk, but people taking minor and insignificant details seriously like that while the bigger picture's blurred to them just drives me bonkers.

Ah... Yeah, many in the Sonic fandom don't have any appreciation for that kind of artsiness. On the other hand, many of us do.

As for treating an upcoming game like the presidential election... hasn't the Sonic fandom always done that?

And the Sonic/Mario thing... you can't expect all these little kids who were in diapers during the Nintendo/Sega drama to appreciate this. They just don't remember. To them, it sounds like a shitty game, because they think the purpose of it is to be an entertaining game. They have no context, they don't know what it means to anyone who was around during the 90s. And half of us who WERE around then don't remember.

Of course they're going to wank about this; by virtue of cross-company cooperation this is almost gauranteed to, in an absolute gameplay and story sense, suck in comparison to normal Sonic games, and many younger fans will think this a waste of Sega's time. But Sonic v. Mario doesn't mean to them what it means to us, and is it really fair to fault them?

...and is it really fair to imply that we're all like that?

It does kind of bother me that Sonic's speed has to be toned down (or Mario's bumped up), but I'm not bitching about it like most of the other fans. XDD My question is, how's he going to do in the swimming competition? Doesn't Sonic hate water? Nevermind the fact that he frequently runs around underwater in his 2D games.

I'd really love to see Sonic and Mario actually interact with each other in this game. I mean, Sonic's probably the loudest-mouthed video game mascot around while Mario hardly says more than "Let's-a go!" "Mama Mia!" "Ohhhh nooo!" and other two-word sentences. It would make for a hilarious scenario. XDD
