Ever get this feeling that other than the friends you know who love and support you, you're just... liked and disliked in certain fandoms. Like, I could post a yaoi fic in Mariodom and people would like me and be amazed by my writing. But post a yaoific in Sonic, not only do I get flamed to death, but the only reason anyone would like my work at all is soley because I wrote their favorite pairing. Meaning I'm indistinguishable from all the OOC crap in the fangirl's favorites list. Um, whoopee.
I don't want to be the screechy rebel who toasts snotty BNFs while everyone laughs and throws rotton tomatoes. I'm not picky why somebody favorites a story of mine. But I want to be known for my writing and storytelling, not because I write Sonadow or Shadamy or whatever. I'm doing this for my enjoyment and I want to share with other people my stories and ideas. When they ignore everything else all because of the subject ("EEEEEEE OMG ITZ SHAD)WZ!!11!!" "Erm, actually, it's about Blaze." "EW BLAZX23 IZ SUCVH A SUE IMA OUTTA HER2!!11!") It's like baking a cake: I want everyone to chow down, but when they only eat the cherries, chocolate chips or frosting, or complain about them and not even touch my cake, I can't help but feel... trampled on. And abused.
Looking back, Mario fandom didn't treat me like that. Yes, we had our fair share of rocky times, but it's like... they're gentle with me and loving. Forgiving. Laid back, easy going.
In Sonicdom, it's like the only people who aren't bullies or trying to rip each other apart are my friends or the Sonic characters themselves. I just want to be hugged by fictional characters right now. Especially from Sonic. Shadow, Cream, Amy trying to encourage me. Let Bunnie put her arms around me, let Sally take my hands. Just nuzzle against Rotor and listen to Antoine's ridiculous poetry. It'll be like... everyone's there.
Meh, Puri should be in bed. I don't want to nap and put up with IRL drama all day again tomorrow.

Date: 2007-06-19 05:06 am (UTC)I wanna offer advice but it'd sound preachy and I know how you feel. ._. It's hard to have fun in fandom when people are assholes, you feel unwanted or like you have something to prove, etc.

Date: 2007-06-19 05:40 am (UTC)As for attention... at least people notice your writings at all...
And by the way, I don't like Sonadow, but I still read and like your work.
But a lot of people just read for pairing. And some people are rude enough to bitch about that alone. It's just assholes... but when you put your stuff out there, you put it out there to be read and commented on freely. "trampled on and abused"... Sorry, Purichan, but that's a little melodramatic. You're unfairly unappreciated and unfairly trolled. But that's a part of the game, that's part of how it goes. You have to expect it, so you're pleasantly surprised when it doesn't happen.
But yes. Our fandom sucks. Of course the only people who aren't dicks in it are your friends, and a select few pockets of other people's friends who haven't run into you. Some fandoms are just assholes. But there are always nice pockets in those fandoms, and you're at the center of one for Sonic. Be thankful for that.
