Never trust Sonic fandom. EVER.

It's not the Sonic games/comics/etc. themselves that suck. It's their bloody screeching fans. Or shall I say, "so-called fans"?

How can they stand whining about the same goddamn thing over and over and OVER again!? :enraged:

Face the friggin' music, before I stuff your head down the mouth of a tuba. Lemme list all your excuses: placed in another fandom, you'd be laughed at as the biggest idiot ever.

1. "I'VE LOST ALL MY FAITH IN SONIC!!1!11!11" Then bloody STOP PLAYING. Because obviously you're a friggin' masochist if you keep buying games you KNOW are going to hate. If you can't stand a book by an author, you don't look for other books the author's written and complain about them right? At least I HOPE you don't...

2. "Sonic Next-Gen was AN ATROCITY/DEMON/UNHOLY/SACRILEGIOUS/WITCHCRAFT/HITLER'S MEIN KAMPH TO THE SONIC SERIES!!111!11" Yeah, yeah. You said the same thing last year about ShtH. And Sonic Riders. And Sonic Heroes. Ooooh! Are we sensing a pattern here or can we not make up our minds?

3. "SO MANY CHARACTERZ NO MORE HEDGEHOGS I H8 SHADOW AND SILVER AND DA RACOON GIRL!!1!11!" Um, dude. Shadow was created in 2001, at the time of late Dreamcast. What makes him suddenly shoved up in the ranks of the raccoon girl? Oh wait, I forget. The guns. And people still assume he's exactly the same Shadow as he was in ShtH forever and ever and ever. :sarcasm: Were they plugging their ears screaming and kicking a tantrum on the floor during Shadow's ending in Next-Gen? ("If the whole world becomes my enemy, then I shall fight like I always have.")

We don't KNOW what the raccoon is like. Therefore, you have no right to assume she's a Cream clone or a ripoff of your precious Mary-Sue. Yes, Silver's a dork. But not a dork like Shadow. They're polar opposites. This... this should be obvious to you all. But I guess you'd rather stick your head in the sand huh?

4. "EWWW HEDGEHOG/HUMAN KISS!!!11111!11!" Geez. Elise dares put her mouth over Sonic's, and the fandom (especially Sonamy fans) thinks they've had rough steamy sex on screen. Yes, Elise loves Sonic. But she did it because A. It would save his life. B. Hence, it would save the world. Also? There's another word for mouth-to-mouth: it's called resuscitation. Seems more accurate, don't you think?

Remind me not to trust a WORD of what anyone aside from close friends say about Sonic anymore. For all I know, Wikipedia and the forums will be stuffed with lies and bullshit opinions that are far from the truth.

*sighs* Some fandoms just never learn. Sailormoon fandom bitched and wanked about the same things over and over again, too.

Sub vs Dub and Manga vs Anime were always popular. People bitching about how the dub was rape, the anime raped the manga, the subbies were elitists, mocking anyone who dared to like the dub.

People also spread wild rumors about how Mamoru and Usagi didn't actually make ChibiUsa because of the pink hair and red eyes, people hating Mamoru, etc. And there were a few wanks about the Save Our Sailors site claiming Haruka was Prince Uranus in a past life and got reincarnated into a woman.

Then there were a few other topics that weren't necessarily wanky, but were quite tiresome. And as always, character bashing and Otaku Wars, an actual self-insert fanfic series that encouraged people to fight over whose favorite Senshi was better. @_@

4. "EWWW HEDGEHOG/HUMAN KISS!!!11111!11!" Geez.

I saw no one complaining when it was insinuated that Shadow and Maria were together. Oh wait, they were "just good friends".

Personally, I like both pairings, but it always amuses me to know end when people fly off the handle like that. Lawl.

Some people interprated Shadow and Maria as a brother/sister relationship, which is understandable, considering how they grew up together. There were no complaints because nothing was really set in stone about those too. However, it was heavily suggested that there were stronger feelings between Sonic and Elise, which is why whinery was afoot.

Whinery was afoot.

I have no idea why, but that quote makes me giggle.

I'm still half asleep here, but here we go. Really, pairing wars in this fandom are some of the silliest ones I've seen. Wankery at its finest. I'm all for a pairing, if it looks like it'll work - hence the reason I don't mind seeing Sonic and Elise, or Shadow and Maria together (given the rather open-ended interpretation we were shown of their life together).

Maybe I just don't 'get' the whole wankery issue within this fandom or I've managed to miraculously stay out of it this long. Okay, that was stretching it.

Ah, me neither, I don't mind who you pair off. In my eyes, if it increases your enjoyment of the fandom, then that's fine and dandy, it hurts nobody. For a while I was convinced that Shadow and Maria were in love, although a manual claimed it was a brother/sister thing, which was a disappointment, I'm not a family person, so I prefer love as a motive than family bonds.

Buty yeah, however anyone wants to interprete things is fine by me. It's a pity a lot of fans can't live and let live, you'd swear it was life or death.

I'll admit I wasn't overly fond of Sonic Next Gen, however, excessive whining is not on. Make a few criticisms of the game, yes, but don't friggin' act as though it's the end of the worl. Choose another fandom if you don't like the games.

But I did like the story quite a bit, which is where a lot of whining comes up. I thought Shadow was great in it, there was actual acknowledgement of how easily led on he was in ShTH and it showed how he developed on it (i.e., telling Mephilles to piss off.)

The number of characters never really bothered me either, storywise. There are plenty of other series with many many more characters. I mostly found the whole "Silver being a Shadow clone" really ridiculous, because Silver is almost the opposite of him nowadays. Silver's naive, optimistic, friendly and open to others, whereas Shadow's untrusting and closed-off. More fandom bitchery, really.

And I said it before and I'll say it again, I found the Elise and Sonic relationship to be too innocent to freak out over a kiss. A peck on the lips, even. It's not as if they started going at it or anything. Plus, different universe, different laws, I reckon. Animals are intelligent beings in that continuity, so it could be a case of "as long as it's consenting, what does it matter?" (hence why RougexKnuckles or whatever isn't a big deal). Again, canon fandom will never deal with sex as an issue, so those tightropes won't be trodded on.

yea after a while of being a fan, ive pretty much learned to take what comes to me, and NOW WHINE ABOUT IT. and ive been a fan since SA2b, meaning a lot of those fans are taking longer than me to get it 9_9

1. I myself have been guilty of saying that phrase, but ive long gotten over it and really i just dont care anymore XD

2. I was surprized how the cutscenes in this game were BARELY more serious than the last games. If you look past the graphics, there was even still some good old sonic silliness thrown in. I mean, I was a bit miffed about eggmans look, but then at the end he threw one of his eggman*hissy*fits (a la "OH THAT HEDGEHOG GRR *stomps*") and little minor things like that that made me realize no matter how cool they try to be, its still sonic.

3. I think now that I look at her, shes more like a red fox..
I wonder if theres still people out there who think silvers just like shadow.

4.I may be a sonamy fan, but I didnt care that she kissed him. I mean jeez, she likes him. so what. someone ELSE can omg like sonic other than amy, its not going to ruin my pairing XD I was just happy Amy had the goodness in her to not tackle Elise for doing so~! (she became buds with elise sorta anyway, lawl)

wow this ended up longer than I thought. If I were you Id do my nbest to stay away from those bad fans XD

A lot of what you say is right, but I have to defend some of the wanky criticisms (although not the childish ways in which they're being treated).

I think that the assertion that Shadow is the beginning of the end is a valid criticism, with Next Gen being an expansion of that (although the real beginning of the shift started in either SA1 or 2). Consider "I'm just a guy who loves adventure." Did I get the quote right?

Sonic's character is changing on a very fundamental level from what he represented in the old days (unless you are or were an Archie fan). Before, he was "Just a guy who loves adventure," emphasis mine. His character is being expanded upon and fleshed out, in ways that are not congruent with some fan ideas about who and what he is. In particular, the vision of Sonic as a Messianic figure is dissolving. This manifests in two major ways: Sonic's lost hope in one of the endings of Shadow the Hedgehog, and the hints that he loves Elise back. We tend to perceive our Saviors as chaste and infallible... but even Jesus got upset, and it's been suggested that good old JC may have had a wife--it'd be unusual if he hadn't had one. Still, there's this image, this image that Elise threatens.

And this shift represents a fundamental change in the meaning of Sonic. No longer is he the perfection we aspire to be... Really, Sonic was a Mary Sue and always has been, and now he's slowly shifting AWAY from that, into true depth. This threatens fans who want that perfect messianic figure, or that perect sue. It's appealing to fans like me, although I have to admit I have my reservations about Elise. I often rant and rave and call her the "redheaded stupid bitch" and bash her voice actress, but truth be told, she was just poorly written.

Serious spoilers below.

I really think the series LOST something by retconning the relationship, even though I'm not down with Sonlise at all. I think it would have been a lot better for Sonic's character if he'd just wistfully moved on instead of had it all retconned. The latter is a throwback to his messianic status--and his resultant inability to be with any girls, lest he lose his power. I'm actually picking up this vibe taht as soon as Sonic gets laid, he'll lose his powers--like the purity stories of high fantasy. (I'm trying not to thiink of the hilarious and obscene possibilities of a unicorn putting its head in a virgin hedgehog's lap).

Sonic's response to Elise was to mediocre. He didn't really respond to her love, by the cutscenes I've seen, nor did it pass over his head. he was only mildly effected. If there had been some indication of conflict from him, some slight wavering, I'd be satisfied--but he's stuck in limbo between Messiah and Hero, where every glance at his "humanity" is brief and fleeting, but his flawless, Christlike front is rapidly dissolving nonetheless. The Sonic writers need to take a stand.

As for the character stuff... you have to admit that the character roulette is getting rediculous. I'm all for huge casts as long as you develop characters and don't just leave them. I want to see Knuckles get some love again, and Tails as well. I want real development for them. Rouge and Omega also need more, although less so. I want to see more of the Chaotix, and I think that the old, abandoned characters like Nack, Bean, and Bark need to be used again, or at least referenced. I'm not opposed to new characters, I just don't like the episodic, person of the week feeling.

I mean, yes, there are annoying elitist ranting fans. That's true in every fandom. But there are a few things that are easy to forget. One is that at least some of these fans' criticisms have validity, if nowhere near as much as they think they do... and the other is that WE ARE these fans to the other side of the fandom. Hell, I HAVE been the ranting Elise hater. I denounced Shadow when it first was announced, and it became my favorite installment. And you have to admit you've done your share of rabid ranting.

I guess I'm just saying, please try not to jump to conclusions. It's when people start going "STFU NOOB" that real discourse dies.
