I've been more obsessed with Pokémon than Sonic lately. Reasons may or may not be so obvious why.

Why is it in our culture it's a virtue to be an asshole? That hatred makes you powerful, makes you a messiah, makes you all-knowing and "cool"? That people are praised for snarking and being cruel to others and tearing them to shreds to build themselves up, that being an asshole gets them rewards and friends? Why do I feel like I've been born in the wrong time period?

It's... why?

That's something I've often found myself wondering. Why is it that the world's so cynical that saying something positive earns you a look as if you've got lobsters crawling out of your ears? I find myself saying cynical things that I don't really feel, in order to avoid those stares.

Ah, it's a complex thing.

If you look on the bright side of this issue, you will see that there are actually very few people who are not total assholes - it's a very exclusive club and no one else can join unless they're NICE. >(

I think the REAL way to succeed is to be a bit of both, you know? Be courteous, kind, and sympathetic to others but remember that there are some who right-out NEED someone to throw back at them what they've been givin' to everyone else. It'll hurt them in some way, and if it hurts THEM then you know damn well that it'll hurt you more, but hopefully you will have at least changed SOMETHING in that one jerk, right?

I don't know. As far as time periods go, I think it's also pretty much remained the same - the ones who barrel over others and make people suffer are the ones who survive, therefore, they're the only ones who can live to tell the story of what happened. SO, because they only tell it in THEIR eyes, they write the novels because they are the "winners" - and winners ALWAYS write history. Because they're winners, everyone will believe it.

because pokemon is the freaking shiznit :D

and yea, i know how you feel D: it always seems like the "cool" people are the mean ones and anyone who is nice is weak or gets judged right away like theyre gonna be snotty or something. i wish i could live in some magical time where virtue is rewarded the most.

I HATE that so much and sometimes I wanna show these fuckers what mean really is by locking them in a tiny room for 48 hours forcing them to read (insert epic badfic here) and listen to (insert epic bad music here) on repeat.

It makes me so happy when I find out people agree that this "LOL BEING MEAN IS COOL" stuff is bogus.
