It's interesting what you find on LJ these days...
Disney irks me to no end these days. Did you hear about their latest sacrilege? They're making a 3D Winnie the Pooh series for his 80th anniversary, but this time "to make it more relevant to today's world" they're replacing Christopher Robin with a 6-year-old tomboy girl. Also note that the series' name is "My Friends Tigger and Pooh." Tigger suddenly comes before Pooh?

To quote the "FF2" translation of Rydia from FF4:
"SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM~!"

Rant ahead
Date: 2005-12-13 04:59 am (UTC)If people want little girls to see strong female characters, they should read stories like Pippi Longstocking and Matilda. Great stories, great leads, no bloodshed and leather miniskirts required.
At the very least, they could've just added a girl without replacing Christopher Robin. :PRe: Rant ahead
Date: 2005-12-13 05:31 am (UTC)Matilda = TEH RAWWWWK

Date: 2005-12-13 05:44 am (UTC)Yeah, I know what you mean. I felt the same way about Nickelodeon as a whole, and I don't like super-modernized hip-hop versions of old Disney favorites. I loved Goof Troop and Disney's Doug, though.
I watched that movie over and over again during the Christmas vacation of my 8th grade year. :D

Speaking of which... I rememebered that I like Eeyore. :33

Date: 2005-12-13 05:03 am (UTC)That sorta thing didn't work for Metal Gear Solid (Raiden), F-Zero (Rick Wheeler), Sonic (Chris Thorndyke) and Batman (Azrael, old comic story from the early '90s). I don't see it working for Pooh.
I forsee this one getting seriously mangled/spun before it takes off the ground, ala 'Loonatics'. (Which in actuallity isn't THAT bad, but there are better things on TV these days)

Date: 2005-12-13 05:45 am (UTC)They wanted to have the 'everyman' character, so audiences can identify with them and experience the set world from 'their' perspective, or something of the sorts.
I think it went like that, but you get the general idea. Now in theory it's a good idea. I'm using that basis for my SSB fic, only Eirika from Fire Emblem 8 is the 'everyman' role. More often than not, it backfires, depending on how the character is written.
Chris just devolved into a Mary Sue-esque archetype that makes, say, Sally Acorn from the Archie Comics look like an average joe.
... Well, that's an exaggeration (as Sally is a prime example of a Sue, but let's not get too much into Archie here), but you just don't alter Sonic Adventure 2 like that. Having Chris be the one to convince Shadow instead of Amy about Maria's promise just guts the whole emotion and feeling of the sequence. By that point in the show, everyone hates Chris so much, they've made about 50 voodoo dolls of the person who came up with him in the first place. XD;;;
As for the 'tomboyish girl' in Pooh, I can only see her fall victim to the typical tomboy archetype that is so prevalent in cartoons. Who wants to bet we'll get more than 1 'grrl power!~1'-themed episodes? XD;;;

Date: 2005-12-13 06:07 am (UTC)I didn't mind John Meyers that much, but then again, I didn't think about him either. My parents rented the movie, I'll have to watch it again. *nod* Chris however, was a leech--was it really THAT nessessary to become that important in SA2 all the sudden? I agree about the whole Chris-replacing-Amy scene, too: it killed all the original impact the scene in the game had, and it Chris was just WHINING to Shadow, ("Stop, Shadow! You can't destroy the Earth, there are good people down there! Why do you want revenge when these good people when they've done you no wrong? It isn't FAIIIIIIIIR~~!") so no wonder he was so peeved. ("Fair!? Let me tell YOU about what isn't FAIR!") At least one thing we can get out this is Shadow flinging Chris against the wall multiple times.
Oh yeah... yes. @.@ Whatever happened to girl power when you didn't have to be a tomboyish brat? Can't you be strong for your character and not being a snob who thinks she's special 'cause she wears pants and burns dolls? Oh wait, you're either a stereotypically weak damsel-in-distress, or you're an uber-femmenazi that throws a shriekfest at the mention of wearing a dress or "behaving like a lady". *rolls eyes*
