Mar. 9th, 2005 08:06 pmSo... will the world teeter over to destruction?
Darnit, I'm supposed to be a super humongoid bouncing fangirl. The one who's supposed to be blinking with wide eyes at the computer for several minutes then cry "RAAAAAWK!" then run outside leaping all over the place in joy. Like, Charmy on ratilin or something.
So, what's the big fuss going on over a trailer under 24 hours old? Or rather, explosions of "OMGTHISISWRONG"?
Well, you see, Shadow has a gun. And it's about as big as he is.
Blind Fanboy/Fangirl: OMG Shadow ahs a gun, this'll be de bezt game eva1!111
Longtime "Sonic" Devotee: Oh GOD, this is the end of Sonic Team. They've lost their creativity, all they care about now is money. And ew, they're reusing the "Sonic Heroes" models. This'll flop like "Sonic Heroes" too.
Shadow Haters/Dislikers: gjbyhnay FANSERVICE.
Everyone: Shoot me. Please. (Rabid fans: "im in hevn!11" The other two: "We're going to hell.")
Now, for my five cents:
I knew Shadow was gonna get his own game--he has a very largeif scary fanbase, so it's expected. That, and I was hoping I could see more backstory to him, so that way, it could clear up some mega confusing details about his past. And a darker side to "Sonic"? Sure. I mean, it's as dark enough as it already is, so I wouldn't mind seeing that in the upcoming game. And I repeat: Shadow game. Dude. (No "Yu-Gi-Oh!" puns, please. *brick*) That's like... Geno having his own game, or something. It's like being able to play as Meta Knight and Riku in "Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land" and "Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories", respectively. It'll be like handed over SA2B, only with Shadow's stages. So, imagine how kickass Meta Knight was in K:NiDL and playing through the game with him the Best Feature to Ever Come in the Remake of a Classic Video Game (Hey, it's classic to me! XD) and... okay, I haven't beat Sora's part in CoM yet, and I won't intend to for a while. XD But I know Riku's gonna rock, 'cause I say so. So Shadow, having an entirely different game for his own, his speed and powers, a story about him and possibly explain some... yes. Oh yeeeeeeesssss... excellent. *rubs hands together and fails making a good Mr. Burns impression*
But a gun? Sorry, but Shadow kicks enough ass on his own. *BRICK* Bear with me, let me take care of the less serious reasons first. I mean, for one Shadow is powerful. Super power. Dude, he was made to be the Ultimate Life-Form... that's enough to explain many things. Why would he need a gun when he already has so much with him? I mean... Chaos Control. And Chaos Spear! Any of the robots or whatever he faces in this new game or whatever, it would take five seconds to swipe a Spear at 'em then dig out some humongoid thing he'd need both hands to carry in order to blast something. Besides, it would be easier to run around blasting energy then running and falling down (or reduced to walking) carrying a humongous gun. Leave the Blaster Footwork to "Star Fox"! *BRICK*
2nd. Sonic would not use a gun. Sure, can I make jokes, (thought it's most likely directed at Shadow anyway, but even then) but honestly. He would not. Hell, Yuji Naka said he won't be using a gun. You want guns? Dude, that's what Gamma's for. And definitely Omega, trigger-happy as he is. And Eggman, ("Yosh!" and cue his laughter here when you fire down a good amount of enemies in SA2B) and Tails. Yes, Tails, another character complained about using guns instead of flying. Personally, I'd prefer he'd flown over being confined in a machine, (His levels weren't as fun as Eggman's, either) but dude. At least he was on the Tornado. Of course he'd shoot stuff from it.
And finally, it comes to this. If it is said that Sonic wouldn't use guns, then Shadow won't either. Why? Let's ask Naka again: it's against Sonic's character. And with Shadow, this is even more so. Why? Here we go: Okay, the trailer went fast for me, and I don't remember each and every little thing from it. But basically, it's Shadow. Blowing things up. It's been said he was doing this for revenge. (And GUN are most likely among the unlucky)
Now, let me repeat that: Shadow is blowing things up with a gun. For revenge.
Um, excuse me Sega. But didn't a little Flicky named Amy tell Shadow something that made him remember something... about oh, I don't know, that his promise was to make the people happy, not *gasp* revenge?
Ooh, and it gets better:
Maria was killed by a gun.
Gerald was killed by a gun.
What took everything Shadow loved and cared for was Guardians of (the) United Nation, aka G.U.N. Gun.
So, what's Shadow doing hugging around a weapon that killed his best friend and was the start of bringing his life absolute misery thanks to, oh, I dunno, everything else described above?
Irony, children. Irony! Tuh! Let me tell you about irony, and I've got quite a lot to say, man. This tells me less like irony and oh, more like SCREAMINGLY OOC. Yeah! Let's huck all the development and all that made him awesome in SA2B, and now we have this shallow killing machine who calls himself Shadow--tell me that's one of Eggman's clones. Let's throw all I remembered about Maria's promise, and go out for vengence and blow everybody up! But hey! No one will care--the fanboys are happy, and they get to go "Resident Evil" and GTA on robots and such. And the ladies too, 'cause a gun makes him "hawt". Or "hawtr", whatever. Excuse me while I claw at my forehead and bang my head on the keyboard several times.
Maybe Shadow having a gun won't be as bad as it sounds. Maybe they'll get rid of it (unlikely, but at least make it smaller) and allow more oppurtunity to use his energy attacks and such, so the game will remain fast-paced. And dude, Sonic Team better give a damn good reason. I mean, Yuna from FFX having a gun in FFX-2 made me all "WTF!?" at first, but I'm over it now. But then again, I'm not that interested into playing FFX-2, so I won't mention more of it. (Me: Darnit, the FFX ending was kickass enough, why make a sequel?) And I'm hopeful: FFX-2 received mixed reviews, and despite the fact a lotta people consider SH "a flop", I liked that game. Sure, it's definately not SA2B. But I liked it nonetheless. My opinion, that is that. I can only hope I can say the same thing for the Shadow game, 'cause I want to like it. I want to think that this is the most awesome game since sliced bread. It doesn't have to topple "Super Mario RPG", or SA2B, hell, it doesn't have to topple SMRPG, SA2B, and "Chrono Trigger" fused together. I just want to like it. And be proud of liking it. Because I'm a Shadow fan. And most importantly of all, it was a Shadow game worth playing.
I can only kneel on the floor and pray. People have already gone psycho over the game, and will be for quite a many other situations too. Sonic Team? Don't fail me. Please. Believe me, I'm scared. And if things turn out as I've feared, and you spew a crappy game for the fanservice and money, (temporarily, 'cause big bucks for a bombing game will only go lower and lower, and you end up with dusty used copies stored up by the dozens in cheap video stores everywhere...) well... let's say I'll find out where your company is. And I will shoot you, followed by the game and the shattered disc in the bull's eye. Then fall on my knees in the wreckage, holding my Shadow plushie as close as possible. And weep.
