-the bells of notre dame-
Jun. 27th, 2008 10:41 amI don't typically go hunting for Kingdom Hearts fanfiction, mainly because most of it bores me.
God Help The Outcasts and Hellfire (both KH/Hunchback of Notre Dame crossovers), on the other hand, completely floored me.
Hunchback is one of those Disney films that's downright dark and creepy, which is why it's one of my favorites. It depicts a somber world of cruelty and prejudice, and it's sin itself to be unique: if you're as free-spirited as Esmeralda or gentle as Quasimodo, you're going to hell 'cause you're a gypsy or a "monster". It subtly touches those levels of hate and religion in a way a G-rated movie head, a lot of its themes going over your head until you're old enough to understand. (See: "Hellfire" is up there among my top Disney songs ever. I remember being all "Holy shit. oO;;;" when I realized what Frollo was REALLY singing about Esmeralda)
I always wondered what it would be like if Sora visited HoND!Paris. (Like that one picture Blue drew long ago with Sora as a gypsy. :o) The fanfics themselves say it best: Paris doesn't need Heartless. It feeds off its own darkness that intimidates the Heartless themselves.
Speaking of dark Disney films and prejudice, here's a little ficlet I also recommend called The Drums of War. Written by Scribbler, for the KH/Pocahontas universe. What would happen if Pocahontas's world was taken over by Heartless? Proves to show that darkness does not distinguish between white or copper skin.
