I've been watching a ton of videos by the Nostalgia Critic and Angry Video Game Nerd lately. It's... fascinating. XD I finally had the guts to watch NC's review of the first movie and surprisingly didn't get too angry. :o I still wish he would have commented on the whole Mewtwo & Ai sequence, but I liked that he ripped the worst part of the dub ("Fighting is bad! ...Now who wants a Pokemon Battle? :DDD") while PWNing what sucks about the movies in general, dub or not (The-Eternal-Monologue-in-Which-Everyone-Sharing-the-Same-Screen-Has-Something-To-Say, the WTF ending of Mewtwo erasing everyone's memories, etc.). I admit Pikachu trying to shock Ash back to life still gets me. Regardless of how cheesy the Swiss Army Tears were, at least Birth of Mewtwo foreshadowed it, and it was nowhere near as stupid as the other deux ex machinas in the other movies (*coughDarkraicough*).

That said, I'm breaking myself away from Pokemon movies 'cause the recent ones just keep getting worse. GUYS. THE DEOXYS MOVIE WAS MY LEAST FAVORITE OF THEM ALL, STOP MAKING COPIES OF IT WITH YOUR SHALLOW LEGENDARIES AND INFURIATINGLY UNREALISTIC AND STUPID CHARACTERS. Shaymin was a small break from that, until after Giratina got fucking revived.... then Zero just had to drag the movie something annoying. I don't want to rant again 'cause I've said it in chat a billion times before, but... ugh. This is infuriating. What happened to Pokemon dying and staying dead? What happened to Legendaries like Mewtwo who were fully developed and had a personality outside of "GET OFF MY PROPERTY KILLKILLKILL AND FUCK EVERYONE ELSE" What happened to the dysfunctional-but-human characters like Molly that were a thousand times more interesting than brainless stock Mary-Sues or megalomaniacs obsessed with catching and torturing their favorite Legendary? You know... where the story had depth, the characters were flawed and endearing, what happened to you guys?

Hell, I miss relationships like with Butler and Diane. Dysfunctional? Yes. But at least it was easier for me to relate to Diane (and to a lesser extent, Butler's humiliation after being laughed at by Team Magma) and root for their happiness. There was actual growth. Diane had to admit her guy had a problem and can't watch and let him get away with torturing small Pokemon, and Butler paid for his wrongs by having what he truly cared for taken away from him in the name of revenge. He didn't just say, "Oh I promise I'll be good!" like an overgrown Pinocchio. He got cracking on his machine, dangit. He still would've saved Ash & Max knowing he may never see Diane again. The fact that Demon*Groudon only used its victims as red blood cells was a super lucky thing. :P

Hell, at least Zero gets jailtime and a sane...r boyfriend. The rest are friggin' Karma Houdinis, especially the bickering Legendary Pokemon (*coughDialga&Palkiacough* No, the whole chastising Palkia thing doesn't count). :/

Yeah. I'm hedgehog hissing and curling under my rock until PokeMovies become darker and awesome again. Unlikely but still. More Mewtwos and Lucarios please! Meanwhile, I'll be sticking with freeware gaming because it's awesome. I still want Braid but the full-version is 14 bucks. *sob* Oh well, at least I can still beat Cave Story on the normal path. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate having to fight four bosses in a row though. DDDDDDD: *snuggles Yume Nikki, Eversion, I Wanna Be The Guy, etc.*

NC & AVGN videos crack me up. No matter how much I like the movie, what he says is absolutely true and makes me laugh so hard. XD

So true! I thought this Willy Wonka vs. Charlie review was biased, but it certainly didn't stop me from laughing my ass off. XD

NC's facial expressions always make me laugh. XD

XDDDDD;;; It haunts him forever because it seems his name is actually Doug as well? And apparently the cartoon Doug ruined his life. You really MUST see it!

...*cracks up at your entry* I like most of the Pokemon movies. Except for the Manaphy one. XD But yeah. I do miss the angst...and I think the Darkrai movie had angst. No one liked him and such...then again it would have been even cooler if he was a mix of the Darkrai from PMD2 and the movie itself. He could've been all conflicted. :D

I like most of the movies too, but some of them just make me... *sob* The Manaphy movie had Jackie, at least. It should've been about him, not May. :P

Dang, the Darkrai movie has a TON of potential and things I like about it (see: Darkrai & Alicia, Alberto, backstory of Alamos Town, etc.) except it was bogged down by just as many little niggling things that get me and arrrrrrgh. XDDDD;;; Thankfully Ryo Takamisaki's manga adaptation cut most of that out and kept what's most important. And hey. I care enough about the movie to write fic and something epic with a matching game from RPG-Maker, Yume Nikki-style!

Then again it would have been even cooler if he was a mix of the Darkrai from PMD2 and the movie itself. He could've been all conflicted. :D

Ooh, I'd like that! :o There was actually a theory that after MD2!Darkrai lost his memories, he wound up in Alamos and was cared for by Alicia. :o

Yeah, the manga adaptation was good...
...and yeah, someone should write a fic about MD2!Darkrai winding up in Alamos...

I'm glad someone else besides me thinks so~ ♥

I think there was a small Japanese comic drawn about it, which was how I first heard about the theory. :o

This is kinda why I'm reluctant to even try to get into the PokeMovie fandom (although I really need to see Movie 10 because it sounds good in concept). Movies don't have to be super mature to be enjoyable for older people as well as younger people, but even just the first 3 movies present everything in a kinda chastisingly one-dimensional way. The humans are usually pretty one-dimensional, but the fact that all the big, evil pokemon were often just mindless Gojirraa, and the cute ones acted just like, idk, kittens, really irked me. Still, the producers are following a formula that works for them. *Shrug*

Not to mention Moviedom is so small anyway. @.@;;; (but yes, 10's worth the shot even for the rants and the manga adaptation is a nice antidote to the sucky things that only happened in the movie. XD 'Sides, it'll make Pokemon Yume Nikki my Darkrai sequel make much more sense. :3)

Even then, the first three movies had a lot of the annoying stuff at a lesser extent. At least Mewtwo and Entei had personalities, and you really felt for Ai and Molly. Amidst all the clones and battles, there was an actual story to it. Movie 3 was less about battling and more about family and love. (Likewise, Movie 8 was about friendship and the bonds between humans and Pokemon rather than a mindless duke-out between legendaries)

While I didn't think Movie 2 was as good as other movies (I was meh overall), it had its moments. Melody had a TON of character to make up for what the Legendary Birds lacked (Ahh, the precursor to the Mindless Legendaries... poor Zapdos). While Jirarudan mainly bores me, the little "collector" thing behind him raises some questions. If he's a collector, surely that means he sees Pokemon as prizes to stake to the wall. What's stopping him from believing the same about people, that they too are objects to be put on display?

Movie 1 Mew is an interesting case. At first glance, she's your standard bubbly cute Legendary. Take note she also giggles while blowing you to pieces, in an "Up yours~~~! :DDD" sort of way. Childlike, playing around but not. And she can kill you. Which is more than can be said about Manaphy here. :P While a lot of people dislike Shaymin for her attitude, I adored her and found her honesty loads more refreshing than the sugary and useless Gives-Jesus-a-Run-For-Their-Money Cute Legendaries in the other movies. (Again, Manaphy. God how they raped thee!) Which makes me think. Dang, a badass cute Legendary would be sweet. Or even an evil cute Legendary. Yeah, like that'll ever happen. XD
